This beer was brewed at our Elmwood pub back in the late summer of 2019. Most of that batch was kegged up fresh & sent to the UK but we filled a few Basil Hayden barrels & hid them away to see what time would do. Twenty two months later we're pleased to introduce Soft Black Stars. Tons of cocoa & oak up front with a rich, almost fruity dark malt character greets you up front. Flavors of sweet caramel, toasted nuts, vanilla and dark chocolate mix with the silky mouthfeel.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like nutty and roasted malt, caramel, bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark fruit, and dark chocolate.
I had heard that this was a bit too sweet, but I don't get that. It's definitely got a velvety sweet chocolate character, but it trends more dark chocolate and than sweet milk chocolate. There's some nuts and caramel, vanilla, and oak from the barrel, with a touch of bourbon.
This is pretty thick and creamy, with a great mouthfeel, and not much booziness.
Thin Man's stout game continues to be very impressive - it's miles better than what it was when they started brewing.

Thick beer. Nice Barrel. Alcohol burn is after the caramel and slight chocolate taste. Vanilla lingers on the tongue. Could prolly use another six months in the cellar but this is very drinkable as is.

Thin Man Soft Black Stars imperial stout aged in Basil Hayden barrels for 22 months. I think this might be their best BA bottle yet. Nose is mellow, but it’s a pleasing stout malt with some subtle booziness. Color is a deep mahogany, bordering into jet black territory. No head. OMG. On a big swig…oh, baby. Sublimely blended flavors from the barrel wood, the whiskey, and the stout. Crisp but deep. Slight alcohol bite plus some warming. Great mouthfeel. Lingering flavors of joy.
