a czech dark lager done with other half, predictably exceptional in terms of overall quality, neat style to get together on too, a little outside the wheelhouses of both of these operations, so a fun offering. its real dark to look at, deepest of browns with a high rising tan head, good clarity is evident and there is a nice shine to this. it smells good too, roasty but not bitter or anywhere near burnt, more deep leathers and tobaccos and chocolates to me, maybe a kiss of smoke and a little caramel sweetness in the middle too, the lager yeast is minimal but bready and european enough to come through as a contributor. the flavor is about on par with the nose, some interesting aspects here though, raisin in the middle, dark bread, maybe a bit of molasses, but its also uniquely malty, like some specialty dark malts have to be in the mix, could be some dark wheat too, its got that fluffy feel and light nuttiness, good complexity and it warms up well. almost has the texture of well conditioned cask beer too which makes it for me. really high drinkability, maybe a little more body than some of the imports, but a lot more freshness and depth than most of them too, i was really impressed with this and want another can right now. thanks to my buddy for sending this out!
