Got this one at Three Meters in Utrecht
From a 37.5cl bottle into a snifter
Batch 1776
EBC: 150
IBU: 63
Best Before: 01 – 2023
Malts: Pale, Aroma 50, Special B, Chocolate, Brown and Oats
Hops: Columbus
Peeze Yirgcheffe Coffee
APPEARANCE: Transparent lighter brown pour yields a two finger, medium looking, slightly creamy, light tan head with good retention. Clear bistre brown body with very high levels of carbonation for the style. Head slowly fades to a thick, full cap and clings to the glass. Swirly wisp remains leaving dots of lacing down the glass. This one is listed at 150 EBC, which is more believable than the 260 that was listed on the base beer.
SMELL: Lots of raw coffee beans, roasted malts and some sweet cream, raisins and some dark fruits from the base beer as well. Bolder.
TASTE: Raw coffee beans, sweet cream and some dark fruit sweetness up front. Flavorful. Some roasted and bitter flavors at the swallow with a bold and lingering finish of bitter coffee beans, roasted notes, sweet cream and dark fruity sweetness like grapes and raisins. The coffee is well measured and works great beside the base beer.
PALATE: Medium body with medium carbonation. Enough weight and surprisingly smooth, creamy enough as well, goes down fine and finishes slightly mouth coating. Some bitterness lingers.
OVERALL: Really nice stuff. The coffee addition to this is well measured and adds a nice layer of raw bitterness to the beer, while the dark fruit sweetness of the base beer is not totally outplayed. Enjoyable and really well done. Perhaps my favorite De Moersleutel to date. Cheers!
