Got this one from the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a 440ml can into a pint glass
Canned 18 December
APPEARANCE: Pours a two finger, looser looking, foamy white head with okay retention. Murky, cloudy amber orange with no carbonation. Head fades to a splotchy wisp and leaves some sticky lacing on the glass. Faint wisp remains until the end leaving splotchy lacing down the glass. Nice, murky NEIPA look.
SMELL: Lots of tropical fruits. Mango, pineapple, passion fruit, peaches and tangerine on the nose. Bold and super fruity.
TASTE: Lots of tropical fruits up front. Mango, passion fruit, pineapple and various other fruity goodness. Like fruit juice. Some sweetness at the swallow, moving into a fruity finish of mango, passion fruit sweetness, peaches, oranges, pineapple and some sweet caramel notes as well. A touch of bitterness lingers on the palate.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy and smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a bit dry.
OVERALL: This is awesome stuff. Most of the time Dutch attempts at the NEIPA style just don’t work out. They produce good beers but they’re not authentic. They usually lack that murky look, which is the visual trademark of the style in North America, and just don’t deliver on the “juice” side of the story. This one, however, is the first one to really look and act on par with its brethren on the other side of the pond. It’s murky, it’s yeasty, and it’s juicy all over the place, just like it should be. Love it and if I could figure it out, I’d brew it myself. Definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of the style, but if you’re expecting what so many Dutch breweries call a New England IPA, you will be disappointed. The closest thing I’ve found to an authentic NEIPA over here. Highly recommended.
