Got this from the Duvel guy many moons ago
From a 25cl medicine bottle into a snifter
Freeze distilled Smeerolie Mexicake
Batch #1
… No matter how good this beer might be, I’m never buying it again. Took at least 20 minutes to get the top off, and when it finally came off, the only explanation I could give was magic…
APPEARANCE: Pours out pitch black and super sludgy, yielding no heat whatsoever. Perfectly still.
SMELL: Lots of chili peppers still, cinnamon spicy notes, with vanilla, milk chocolate and some boozy alcohol aromas as well. Smells peppery and potent.
TASTE: Chili peppers, cinnamon spice, milk chocolate, dark chocolate fudge, vanilla cream and lots of alcohol at the swallow. Bold finish of chili peppers, cinnamon spices, some sweet vanilla and milk chocolate, with a solid amount of alcohol lingering long after the swallow. Peppery hot and lots of sweetness and booze.
PALATE: Big, thick, syrupy body with no carbonation at all. Perfectly still and super heavy and slick. Sludgy and syrupy slick, goes down slippery with a big burn and finishes very sticky on the palate. Some decent heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is actually quite good. It’s a huge, sickeningly sweet bruiser of a boozer, but it’s really flavorful and the 18% is actually not too bad at all. I’d suggest treating it as a liqueur more than a beer, as it’s perfectly still and is exceedingly thick and syrupy. I like this type of stuff but not everyone else does. I’d love to drink this again but it’s not worth the frustration of trying to open the bottle again by magic. Put it in a regular bottle or can and I’m game. Cheers!
