Pours a pitch-black coloration with a small, creamy, mocha-colored head. Smells of quite roasted, caramel malt and coffee, with some lighter dark chocolat, with just a subtle hint of apricot and smoke as well. Taste is quite roasty, almost bordering on smoky, with strong notes of roasted malt and coffee, as well as lighter caramel malt, dark, bitter chocolate, licorice and just a hint of apricot and tobacco. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some roasted malt and coffee lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and low/medium carbonation.
Quite a roasty, bitter stout even by De Moersleutel's standards, but balanced nicely by some sweeter caramel and apricot notes as well as a rich chocolate presence that is both sweet and bitter. Although the apricot is quite subtle here, it does certain add to the overall experience. Yet another excellent stout by De Moersleutel, very enjoyable if you can dig the roasty, bitter character.
