Got this from the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a 44cl can into a snifter
Collaboration with Kabinet Brewing
Imperial stout with vanilla, cacao nibs, walnuts, nutmeg and lactose
APPEARANCE: Clear black pour yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, creamy looking yet fizzy light tan head with very good retention. Jet black body with no carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a splotchy, faint wisp. A faint ring remains leaving some falling dots of lacing down the glass as it empties.
SMELL: Some vanilla cream and lactose, with cacao nibs and some aromas of toffee and butterscotch on the nose. Some faint nutmeg spices in there as well. Medium strength.
TASTE: Lots of sweet lactose and vanilla cream flavors up front, with notes of cacao and a little hint of nutmeg spices at the swallow. Bold finish with lots of lactose sugar and vanilla, milk chocolate and toffee sweetness, a light roasted character and a bit of alcohol linger on the palate. Lots of milk sugar and candy-like sweetness.
PALATE: Medium-fuller body and low levels of carbonation. Silky slick on the palate, goes down smooth with a bit of a burn and finishes sticky on the palate. Some minor heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is certainly a brew made for lactose and vanilla lovers. No question there. It’s got lots of the sweet stuff but the walnuts are non-existent and any roasted character from the base stout is drowned out. Look and feel are top notch and it’s certainly well-made, but for me this one is not quite as enjoyable as some of their other stellar creations have been. A little less lactose and some more nuts might make this more up my alley.
