Got this one from the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a 44cl can into a snifter
Imperial Gingerbread stout with ginger, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg
APPEARANCE: Pours out clear black and yields a two finger, thick, creamy tan head with excellent retention. Thick and creamy head. Black body with no carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a thick, creamy cap and clings to the glass. A splotchy wisp remains leaving lots of nice, sticky lacing on the glass as it empties. Great looking head, though it needs to be a touch blacker for top marks.
SMELL: Bold aromas of ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg spices, vanilla cream, butterscotch and milk chocolate on the nose. Bold.
TASTE: Big spicy start with ginger and nutmeg up front, with some vanilla beans and sweet milk chocolate through the middle into the swallow. Bold finish of ginger and nutmeg spices, sweet vanilla cream, butterscotch and milk chocolate, with notes of roasted coffee and some alcohol linger on the palate. Bold and flavorful.
PALATE: Thick body and lower levels of carbonation. Silky slick and creamy on the palate, enough weight, goes down creamy smooth and finishes sticky on the palate. Some heat lingers.
OVERALL: Good stuff, overall. The spices are really well measured and the vanilla addition makes it a sweet, spicy desert cake. The feel is thick and creamy, which also gives is a wonderful looking head on top as well. This is well-designed and engineered through and through. One of the better De Moersleutel adjunct stouts to date, and these guys have generally been very impressive in this category so far. Check it out if you can. Cheers!
