CD 11/08/2020. Pours almost completely clear yellow, with frothy white head. Smells fruity, with some resin. Relatively low carbed, medium thickness. Taste is nicely bitter, plenty of pineyness, some melon rind. Pretty decent DIPA, but they forgot the NE?

Pours a cloudy, golden amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of biscuity, slightly caramelly malt and citrus/tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit, mango and hints of pine. Taste is a good balance of biscuity, slightly caramelly malt and somewhat muddled, citrus, tropical and lighter berry hops with notes of grapefruit, mango, papaya and blueberry, as well as some herbal and piney accents. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some grapefruit, mango and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
While this actually makes for a pretty decent American IPA, it's really not that great of a self-described New England IPA, to be honest, completely lacking the style's hazy look, soft mouthfeel and juicy hops, which also feel a bit muddled here, although there still are some nice citrus, tropical and lighter berry and resinous notes to this, as you would expect from Mosaic. Overall, this makes for a nice IPA that showcases Mosaic's range of flavors well-enough, although you may be kind of disappointed if expecting a hazy, juicy NEIPA from it.

Got this from the webshop. Cheers!
From a 44cl can into a snifter
NEDIPA with Mosaic
APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, creamy and fluffy white head with excellent retention. A relatively clear golden yellow for the style and no carbonation evident. Head eventually recedes to a full wisp and clings to the sides of the glass. A faint half-wisp remains leaving some nice dots of lacing down the glass as it empties.
SMELL: Plenty of honeydew melon, caramel aromas, citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit, as well as some decent passionfruit on the nose. Solid, and a replica of the Citra version.
TASTE: Honeydew melon, caramel sweetness, some lemon citrus flavors and passion fruit up front, then a bit of bitterness and some alcohol at the swallow. Flavorful. Bold finish of melon, honey, citrus flavors, passionfruit, notes of mango, as well as a touch of grapefruit bitterness and booze lingers on the palate. Good stuff and exactly the same as the Citra version.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Very creamy and smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a bit mouth-coating. A touch of heat lingers.
OVERALL: I’m not sure which one was brewed / finished first, but this is a great example of how similar Mosaic and Citra really are. I know what you’re thinking, and yes, when you smell them out of the bag, they definitely smell different. However, put an entire recipe around them and add a few weeks of fermentation, and the results end up being subjectively very similar. Still, these are good beers and are well worth the effort. Love me some De Moersleutel. Cheers!
