Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of roasted, slightly caramelly malt, coffee and chocolate, with just a hint of dark fruit and tobacco. Taste is an excellent balance of quite roasted, slightly caramelly malt, a strong coffee presence and dark, bitter chocolate, as well as lighter dark fruits and berries, with notes of plum and blueberry, and just a hint of licorice, tobacco and cinnamon. Finishes rather dry, with a medium bitterness and some coffee, chocolate, blueberry and licorice lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and medium carbonation.

A fantastic coffee stout with rich roasted coffee and dark chocolate notes that lend a distinct mocha feel to this, as well as a rather dry and bitter character, while some dark fruits and berries, licorice, tobacco and spice add layers of complexity here. There is a subtle caramel sweetness to this as well, which acts as a great counterpoint to the roasted, bitter notes, creating a rich and complex brew with a subtle balance of mainly roasted, bitter notes and lighter sweet, fruity accents. Great stuff by De Moersleutel as usual, these guys are absolutely killing it with their Stout game.

Got this one from the webshop. Cheers!

From a 44cl can into a snifter
Imperial coffee stout with coffee from Coffee Collective

APPEARANCE: Pours out clear black and yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, slightly foamy, light tan head with good retention. Black body with no carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a full cap. A splotchy wisp remains until the end leaving touches of lacing down the glass as it empties.

SMELL: Strong coffee on the nose, with vanilla cream, milk chocolate, roasted malts and espresso on the nose. Coffee forward and plenty roasted.

TASTE: Roasted, burnt espresso up front with some vanilla, cream, milk chocolate and more roasted bitterness at the swallow. Bold finish is full of roasted, bitter espresso, charred malts, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, vanilla cream and plenty of bitterness lingering on the palate. A touch of alcohol as well. This is roasted, bitter and very espresso heavy.

PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. A little foamy on the palate, creamy enough though, goes down fine with a bit of a bite at the swallow, finishing a bit mouth-coating. Decent bitterness lingers.

OVERALL: Solid stuff. This is really, really espresso forward and plenty roasted and bitter, but that’s right up my alley if I’m honest. I like this one more than I remember liking the original Double Roast imperial stout. If you’re a coffee beer lover, you’ll like this one. Another great De Moersleutel imperial stout. Best in the country at this style. Cheers!
