Collaboration with Brouwerij Frontaal
Together with the people from Frontaal we've brewed this amazingly smooth beer that you're going to want to try! This brew contained a triple mash, one of which was a cold steep with all the dark malts to get a super smooth roasty coffee profile. The beer was then dry-hopped with the new experimental hops from Yakima, HBC472, which gives an oaky and earthy notes to the beer. The beer itself is super smooth, fruity, coffee and lightbodied for an excellent summer evening vibe.

Got this one from the Moersleutel website. Cheers!
From a 44cl can into a snifter
Best Before August 2022
Imperial stout dry hopped with HBC-427
Collaboration with Frontaal
APPEARANCE: Pours out clear black and yields a big, medium looking, three finger, fluffy tan head with very good retention. Black body and no carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes, getting foamy and pot-holed in the process, to a faint wisp, leaving some foamy lacing on the glass. Splotchy half wisp remains leaving touches of foamy lacing down the glass. Color is fine, though the head is a little foamy.
SMELL: Roasted malts, leather and tobacco aromas, some burnt notes, as well as some peated and earthy character. Bold.
TASTE: Roasted and burnt malts, tobacco, leather, and some earthy peated flavors at the swallow. Some alcohol as well. Bold finish of roasted malts, tobacco, leather, ashy flavors, earthy peat notes, dark chocolate and hop bitterness, as well as some alcohol lingers on the palate. Flavorful and plenty of roasted, burnt bitterness here.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy and smooth on the palate, goes down silky with a bit of a bite at the swallow, finishing somewhat sticky on the palate. Some decent heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is solid stuff and is well-made. The base stout is hefty, with plenty of roasted character for sure, and the feel is up to De Moersleutel’s lofty standards. I’m not sure the specific dry hopping was all that useful though. I’m still not convinced dry hopping stouts is a great thing to do, thought the earthy and peated qualities here work pretty well. Good stuff and worth checking out if you like your imperial stouts hopped up. Cheers!

The moment I popped the ring-pull (my nose 30Cm away) I seemed to be wafted with heavy citrus notes - really?! ... or did I imagine that... weird considering what followed...
L- ... not typical for a stout! And this beer pours inky black, with a 1Cm deep tan head.
S- Coffee, *big-time*. Some cocoa.
T- Coffee, BIG-time, I very nearly involuntarily shudder it's that intense - and I love strong coffee! After about 1/3rd glass, as the beer has warmed a touch only now do I begin noticing a clear ABV%-zing. 'About time, at 11% I paid for some impact!' hehe.
F- Impactful. Really, impactful. I'll leave it there.
O- Wow, it's a show-stopper! Probably requires a taste for strong coffee > no point offering my wife a sip as the coffee would be way OTT for her. It is big, it's a statement beer. I would happily drink it again but it almost calls for an occasion; Xmas, something else special, Halloween, just TGIF after a good week etc. I remain in awe that a brewery can conjour a beast like this out of plain old 'Water, barley, hops & yeast'.
440ml can BB: 08/2022. Bought from TremblingMadness/York/UK for home delivery as part of a couple of DIY picked mixed cases to London.

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a large, creamy, lasting, mocha-colored head. Smells of quite roasted, caramel malt, some coffee and chocolate, as well as herbal, earthy accents. Taste is an excellent balance of quite roasted and lighter caramel malt and herbal, earthy, slightly woody and fruity hops, with some distinct coffee and dark, bitter chocolate notes and lighter accents of licorice, vanilla and tobacco, as well as just a hint of citrus and cedar wood. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some coffee, chocolate and earthy hops lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.
This is quite an enjoyable brew with a rather unique blend of roasted, caramel malt and bitter, herbal, earthy hops, as well as lighter citrus, spicy and woody accents, which perhaps brings it closer into Imperial Baltic Porter than Stout territory. In any case, it makes for a quite rich and full-bodied beer with a somewhat unusual, complex, yet subtly balanced flavour profile that showcases the HBC 472 hops rather nicely, I guess. While the woody notes seem a bit subtle here, there definitely is a pronounced, earthy, musty quality to this, with some bright citrus accents as well. Overall, this makes for a quite a unique and rather well-balanced, mellow brew that is an absolute joy to drink and hides its ABV rather well, without a hint of booziness to this.
