Canned August 2021
Imperial pastry stout with lactose, almonds and vanilla
APPEARANCE: Clear black pour yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, slightly creamy, foamy, crackly, light tan head with okay retention. Clear black body with higher levels of carbonation evident for the style. Head slowly recedes to a
SMELL: Big nose of almonds, vanilla cream, milk chocolate, cacao nibs, and some roasted aromas on the nose. An almond brownie, perhaps. Very nice.
TASTE: Roasted flavors, some almonds, cacao nibs and vanilla cream up front, with more roasted character and some alcohol at the swallow. Bold finish is rich with nuts, lactose, vanilla cream, cacao powder and some alcohol lingering on the palate. Flavorful.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation on the palate. Smooth and creamy enough, goes down fine and finishes somewhat mouth-coating. A bit of heat lingers.
OVERALL: Another stellar pastry stout from De Moersleutel. The look is a little light and carbonated with but that’s minor. The flavor is desert-like with plenty of sweet, pastry goodness that this brewery is so good at. If you’re a fan of the style, this will definitely do it for you. Cheers!
