Got this from the webshop. Cheers!
From a 44cl can into a snifter
Canned 13 January 2022
Imperial stout with muscovado sugar and maple syrup
APPEARANCE: Clear dark brown pour yields a two finger, medium, fizzy looking dark tan head with half decent retention. Clear bistre brown body with high levels of carbonation. Lots of bubbles. Head fizzes down to a thicker foam cap and remains propped up by all the bubbles, then eventually hits a swirly wisp and a ring. Touches of wisp and a ring remain leaving lots of lacing down the glass as it empties. Not very stout looking and too bubbly and fizzy for the style.
SMELL: Aromatic nose of brown sugar, dark fruits like prunes, dates and raisins, caramel aromas, light hints of maple, and some licorice notes. Bold.
TASTE: Muscavado sugars up front, with dark fruits, caramel sweetness, licorice and some tobacco, leather and booze at the swallow. Boozy and sweet. Bold finish of dark fruits, raisins and dates, caramel sweetness, leather, tobacco, licorice flavors and some boozy alcohol linger on the palate.
PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, enough weight, goes down fine with a bit of a burn and finishes quite sticky. Decent heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is described as a maple imperial stout but it doesn’t fit the bill. It’s more of a dark fruit, tobacco forward barleywine or dark ale, but imperial maple stout is certainly a stretch. This works solid as a black barleywine but doesn’t fit the bill for an imperial stout. Good brew but wrong category. Cheers!
