West Coast TIPA
We couldn’t call this beer Extremis without throwing in an extreme amount of hops! Mosaic, Simcoe, and whole cone Mosaic flowers in the whirlpool. Double dry hopped with more Mosaic and Simcoe, and even more Mosaic and Simcoe in lupulin-packed cryo form!

Can on RBSG Bus, courtesy of Hayduke. Rich golden color, small frothy head. Very citrusy up front, adds some more grounded herbal/floral notes, hop resin then takes over, sticky and strong

On tap a the source and then from a can- clear gold/orange color with foamy white head leaving scattered lacing. Nose is a mix of citrus and tropical fruit with sweet malt and earthy dankness. Taste follows with a hit of resiny pine bitterness that lingers on the finish. Mighty fine.

16oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left sticky rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of pineapple, grapefruit, pine and toasted caramel. Sweet tropical fruitiness with bitter piney hops and a caramel malt backbone.

Awe man...I think I have found my favorite West Coast Style IPA...and it's a triple! An absolutely wonderful nose...whiffs and hints of tropical sweet dankness. The taste follows very closely with a great smoothness and feel. Right when you are settling in, it hits you with resinous dank hop bomb of IBUs at the end. Great West Coast TIPA Moonraker!
For 2022 Batch canned on 2/8/2022! Review date 2/16/2022 (4.4) Sweet tropical hoppy and piney, mosaic-dank nose on this one! Taste follows with a sweet tropical hoppy and piney bitter finish. This is very tasty, but leans more toward the sweeter side than dank initially...as it warms, though, the piney hoppy bitter notes come out to play more. I had this on tap, and it is way better out of the can. While it is not as balanced and smooth as the 2022 Pliny the Younger batch, it definitely ticks all the boxes for a Westie Triple...and hides the big ABV very well! This is good!

Well I already know going into this that I haven't scored a beer this high in a long time. Nonetheless, let's review really one of the few legit "Pliny Killers" out there (and it did win at the real tripa/dipa festival at the Bistro).
Pours a clear golden to light amber color. Seriously, this beer looks pretty innocent. White head, 1/3". Great clarity. The aroma hits those danky Mosaic notes first. Lush marijuana and guava all up in your face.
The taste has that good Simcoe bitterness. Super dry. Alcohol so damn hidden in the mouth feel. Super light pale toasted malt, like no crystal thick malt, this isn't thick or heavy, not at all. This really seems like a more convenient to get, canned, 4 pack kind of Pliny the Younger. No lines! Well there are now, but there wasn't originally for this beer. The mouth feel brings back more of those pine and tropical notes that were in the nose.
This is a world class beer and triple ipa. Can't stress that enough.

To my surprise Extremis poured a bright and almost translucent amber/orange. I say that because every Moonraker to date haz been hazy and turbid. The nose is of citrus pith and a generous amount of pine. Taste of grapefruit rind, tangerine juice, pine gum and pine bark. There is a decent biscuit malt presence as well. Extremis is medium body with a nice sticky mouthfeel that I love in these huge IPAs. It finishes dry with a crisp clean pine and citrus pith bitterness. At 10.1% and 100 IBUs Extremis packs a nice little kick but remains a very approachable/drinkable DIPA/3IPA that even a hop novice could/would enjoy.
