Formerly Yojo 33-1/3

The Yojo series continues with Mosaic and Simcoe getting juiced up. Tons of pineapple, evergreen, fresh herbs, and ripe tropical hop flavors over a light doughy malt character.

Sweet tropical hoppy, slightly malty-yeasty, and hint of mosaic-dank nose on this one! Taste follows with a balanced, tropical hoppy and hint of citrus bitter finish...both hops show up in this one, I just wish that mosaic was a little more prominent. This is a tasty single, though!

Gotta hitch that wagon to what drives the train! I think Moonraker knows Yojo is their most popular beer, so much like a popular series, they stretched the OG plot into a couple more sequels here.

Pours a shiny yellow. 1/2" white head. The aroma still pushes hefty Mosaic weight, but its not all tropical here, I dunno if it is Simcoe (strange) but there is definitely some juicy sweet citrus going here, I'm not talking about the grapefruit rind that Simcoe can drop, this is more candied citrus alongside all that hippie dank body odor and weed and tropical fruit guava.

Taste is yet another joy from Moonraker. Sure, trying to dissect the difference between OG, 33 1/3 and 66 1/6th is like trying to talk about the meager if any plot differences in all 533 Fast N Furious movies. I like the bitter punch that Simcoe keeps going here, you get a little medley of different ipa subgenres here, and it all works quite well. One of those rare ipas that you will buy again and again.

The body of this beer is quite light for the NEIPA style the brewer claims, and the beer this drinks like a refreshing NE-WC hybrid. Color is similarly light, with the glass hazy but not entirely opaque. Smell is weak but provides subtle floral hints. The taste follows with a floral flavor and a hint of bitterness in the back. This beer is definitely a crusher. You could easily kill off ten of these on a hot day.

Quick note to Moonraker - if it takes an extensive search to find out wtf this beer is called, your label art sucks. Now let’s move along, shall we?

Bright and festive like bulls on parade. I mean, this son of a gun pops. Huge, beautiful transparent straw color like Van Goghs’s last stroke, meet an intoxicating scent and smell like you just took a stroll down the Keukenhof Gardens. Yes, I want more. I take a sip, I sit. I sit, and I take a sip... And it gives me everything. Think of your best first date, and then your latest dream: Raul is talking supreme.

Now go to rest and be. Be anything that you want.

Canned 01/17/19

Appearance - Pours hazy and straw yellow in color with a white, half finger width head that dissipates quickly, leaving a thin, broken layer of suds on the surface and a thin ring around the edge of the glass. No lacing, save a random small spot or two.

Smell - Pungent aroma fills the general vicinity as I crack the can. Pineapple is prominent, with lesser citrus and tropical goodness. Light, bready malt aroma sweetness sits beneath the fruity hop layer.

Taste - Mild pineapple and papaya mostly, with hints of melon and grapefruit. Plain, crackery malts sit beneath. Finish delivers a touch of pith bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium in body with low carbonation. Slick, easy drinker but with a somewhat flat finish.

Overall - It's no original Yojo, but it's pretty good regardless. Hard to believe I'd never reviewed this before. It could use a bit more carbonation, me thinks.

L - 1.5 finger bright white head atop a translucent yellow body.

S - grapefruit, herb, pine. Very traditional nose.

T - grapefruit, dank, with a crouton-like malt following. Moderate bitterness. No sweetness. Low booziness.

F - medium body and carb.

O - a well crafted ipa. Not sure I would identify this as NE style though.

Canned 1/17/19. This batch clocks in at 7%abv, and features Simcoe & Mosaic hops.
L: Pours a bright straw yellow in color. Somewhat unfiltered in appearance, but isn't as murky or hazy as some other offerings in the same style, or for Moonraker for that matter. About a half a finger of a bubbly white cap which dissipated rather quickly. No lacing on glass, but does maintain ring around perimeter consisting of tightly packed bubbles.
S: Mellow but pleasant. Notes of grapefruit, orange, pineapple, melon and apricot. Hop profile is grassy with mild pine presence. Malt/bready aroma also detectible on the smell.
T: A generous amount of fruit flavor, with an abundance of citrus, pineapple, mango and papaya. Malt backbone adds a nice layer of complexity to the flavor, but isn't as strong as is the case in WC styled IPAs. Finish is earthy/grassy hops with a touch of sappy pine. Aftertaste is lemon, malts and hops with lingering sweetness.
F: Very light and thin, but that isn't a bad thing in this case. If you're looking for a creamy, pillowy NEIPA, this ins't it. It drinks more like a pale ale. Carbonation is tight and moderate, providing nice fizzle on the tongue. Alcohol not present.
O: Very enjoyable offering. Dare I say, crushable? Screw it, I'm saying it. It's light, full of flavor and very enjoyable. Even though 7% abv is not necessarily high by todays standards, it drinks like a hoppy, fruit-forward pale ale in the NE style. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I am very grateful to have tried. Cheers!
