Another Moonraker stout that pours black with a brown head of 1/2" dimensions. Shocking. The aroma is also similar to other stouts, power roasting, no adjuncts. Very slight dark fruit presence on this one.

Taste drops a more nutty and dark fruit presence than just hardcore roasted malt for days. So this one has a slight difference in yeast I would think from their others. Decent amount of chocolate of the dark roasted unsweetened variety here. Bitter and sticky throughout. Still seems like a good base beer for barrel projects.

Said it before, these are good stouts, they have to compete with their world class ipas though. Hence why these seem to always slide under the radar when talking about so many of the great beers Moonraker makes.

Tasting notes from 01/06/17
Had on-tap@ Moonraker in Auburn, CA

Appearance - Served in a tall 12oz tulop. Black with cola brown edging where light can penetrate. Thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass.

Smell - Chocolate is the prominent aroma, with a bit of molasses. Faint roast.

Taste - Follows the nose. Dark chocolate with lesser molasses hit first, followed by some lesser milk chocolate sweetness. Slight nuttiness. Faint roast surfaces by the finish, leaving a lingering, bittersweet aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Sticky, slightly syrupy texture with a dry finish.

Overall - A solid, but not outstanding imperial stout. I like a bit more roast and depth than this shows, but overall it's a decent effort.
