Had on-tap at Moonraker Brewing in Auburn, CA
Appearance - Served up in a 10oz nonic glass. Pitch black with a hint of cola brown around the edge where light can penetrate. Barren surface with a broken, razor thin ring around the edge of the glass. No lacing, but none expected.
Smell - Dark bakers chocolate aroma primarily, with hints of vanilla, roasted malt and a bit of oak.
Taste - Follows the nose. Bittersweet bakers chocolate upfront before notes of vanilla, a hint of bourbon sweetness and a touch of oak develop mid-taste. Finishes much as it begins, as the bakers chocolate outlasts the other flavors, delivering a bittersweet aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low, bubbly carbonation. Slick, silky texture with a smooth, slightly drying finish.
Overall - Simple but tasty. That Bakers chocolate base is the star here, allowing the sweeter notes to play off of it while maintaining a nice overall balance. As one of their first BA offerings, I think they're off to a very promising start.
