26 March 2020 - Beer #59
Corona Day #14
Price: $24.99 at Belmont Station in Portland, OR
Appearance: 5 - like toxic sludge. This is bonkers; I have never seen this before. You can kinda see it in the picture; the head turned into this nearly solid chocolate coating.
Nose: 5 - I mean this is pure decadence. Slight coffee bitterness but otherwise all milk chocolate. Heavenly.
Taste: 4 - really good but not outstanding. Might be a little old. Tons of chocolate, very little coffee. Just not the explosion of flavor I was expecting.
Mouth: 4 - more like chocolate milk than hot cocoa. Thick but a tad flat.
Overall: 4 - I was super excited to try my first Moonraker. Really good, but I'm hoping for better next time.
Stay safe out there, my friends.
Cheers!

L: Pours out thick and viscous. Looks like motor oil. Little head formation, mild lacing. The presence is appetizing.
S: Milk, coffee, dates, figs and molasses.
T: Tons of coffee with dark chocolate flavor. It is bitter and raw cacao flavor that I am tasting, not that sweet confectioners chocolate. The vanilla starts to come through on the finish, which is really shaping this beer into a treat. I have let this beer come to temp for at least an hour or so, and it is really coming to life. The chocolate is there, as is the vanilla. It's honestly fantastic.
F: Freaking epic. Thick, sludgy, heavy and mouthcoating. Very viscous and chewy. Low to moderate carbonation, leaning on the low side, which is working in this case. No abv detection.
O: This is pretty stellar. I would definitely drink again. I think if the coffee was scaled back just a tad, the other adjuncts would pop even more. Regardless, it's a world-class beer no doubt. I am very glad to have tried. Cheers!

Poured out of the bottle a deep black with a rich dark khaki colored head. Look was a total '5'. Chocolate and vanilla primary on the smell with coffee in the background. Taste follows and could only be better with a bit of barrel aging. Nice creamy mouth-feel. This beer is a total winner.

Poured from a 500mL bottle into a glass. I immediately notice how viscous and sludgy it pours. Smell is a bit off-putting - like sour chocolate milk with a bit of vanilla - surprisingly - no coffee, though. Taste is exquisite - like chocolate covered marshmallows!! Again not getting any of the coffee in the flavor. The mouthfeel of this beer is really stunning - so thick and velvety!! Very few beers really wow me with the type of mouthfeel that this beer achieves - like drinking a pillow made of clouds! Moonraker has officially thrown their hat into the dessert stout ring - and I hope they keep them coming!

Taste is rated on residual mouthfeel and flavor! this is beautiful!!! coating of the mouth is absolutely fantastic! THIS is how it's done!! if there has to be a 5, this is it.
