West Coast IPA
I know Moonraker is known for their excellent juicy NEIPA's, but this beer just showed me how great these guys are. I love YOJO, but this is my jam!
L: Medium straw, fairly clear.
S: Resinous, herbal, pine, orange/grapefruit citrus rind.
T: Probably one of the best West Coast IPA I've had. I'm saying what they have done here is channel a flavor profile that was really popular 15 years ago and slowly making a comeback. Very similar to Russian River's Row 2 Hill 56 or Device's Integral IPA but better. It's done really well. Its a little more on the assertive side, not too crisp and no cloying crystal malt to add unnecessary sweetness. It is just bitter enough that some would do a double-take after a plethora of NEIPA's, but not nearly as bitter as Stone Ruination used to be. Can I get a keg of this?
O: For a West Coast IPA...this one checks every damn box. For beers in your past that are gone (Stone Ruination and Widmer Broken Halo I'm talking about you!)...this channels that "not citrus and juicy" IPA profile to near perfection. As a homebrewer, I have made some beers like this... trying to get close to this flavor profile and have never done it this well. Truly legit!
Grade: 95-96
