for 20 bucks a 500ml bottle, and being from one of my favorite breweries in the game, and being done with wine grapes, which i am obsessed with as a beer element, i expected fully for this one to pop me off, but it comes in a bit below expectations for a couple of reasons. the first is the lack of head, sure its fizzy on the palate even though it rises like soda and then goes away almost instantly, but i need this kind of beer to have a little head, the stillness suggests either some epic unblended lambic or a flaw, and its unfortunately the latter here. drinking texture fine, visual texture less so. the color is nice though, pinkish and a little cloudy. smells and tastes a little cereal dusty, too new maybe, i dont know, but its bretty and funky without being very interesting at all, and although the fruit is awesome all the way, the base beer isnt amazing to me, shocking based on most of my previous experience with alesong. the grape part rules, identifiable is as pinot noir even, which is so rad, and this has nuances of red licorice, lush rose petal, red wine vinegar, and raspberry jam, but the ferment is what i bought this for and its the weakest link, maybe some cellar time would improve that, but for this price, this should have been more ready than it seems to me to be. its a privilege to drink alesong and i will not forsake that, but i wanted more from this, especially for this price and way too long away from access to their beer...
