L- Deep chestnut-red/brown. Pours clear with shy cap production (unsurprising at the ABV%) just a peripheral pale tan ring.
S- This is the Kentucky bourbon barrel version and that is clear to find. There might be a touch of vanilla in there too.
T- Starts gentle, reminds me of whiskey+cola, then [instantly!] BAM! the liquor hits. I involuntarily shudder and shake my head fast - AGH!! Good grief, is it meant to do this? I take sip-2, the same flavour journey though I don't shudder this time. Instead I get a huge warm glow all the way down to my stomach, Woof, death or glory with this one, though I don't expect your average beer drinker is looking to buy brews like this. Now I'm getting serious alco-burn on swallowing. The curious thing is it's not even that high ABV% at 12.5%.
F- It's rich, certainly, but not veering into sweet (yet). The ABV% hit from this might be countering some of that risk as it creates a focus. Perhaps not the best way of creating a sense of balance.
O- It's depressingly unsubtle for me, unsophisticated. I've had beers over 18% that have had the finesse that this blunt instrument lacks. I get the mega-liquor; just way too loudly. I miss any notes of the barrel wood, and subtlety, they're completely smothered. As it warms a touch it is also at risk of becoming outright sugary. Considering the price this brewery is not for me.
US Pint bottle. Bought from Trembling Madness in York/UK for home delivery. Price, north of £20.
