This rich fruit sour is full of fragrant strawberry aromas and yields a pleasant tart finish. Peach blush in colour and dry-hopped with our home-grown Mosaic hops.

Pours gem clear and the color of pale rosé. One and a half inches of white froth slowly fades, leaving no lacing on a Strangebird IIPA glass. Swarms of microfine carbonation waft throughout and crackle loudly as they breach the surface.

The aroma is surprisingly dusty and dominating, with faint strawberry and lemon. Late earthiness is mild as it warms.

The flavor is similar to the aroma, however, it is VERY tart. Mild astringency gives way to a sweet, long finish that ends very dry. The finish is quite the curiosity.

Sharp satin texture works well with the light to thin body. The alcohol presents higher than labeled, while the fizzy carbonation never stops and the high effervescence lasts to the final sip.

This is a fine beer. The flavor profile is more subtle than the tartness allows and would probably be better suited as a summer brunch beer. My thanks to Dave.

473 mL can from the LCBO, included in a Bench/Henderson collaborative mixed pack. Coded Jul 21 2024 and served slightly chilled. I liked Bench's Berry Fields sour, so if this is similar then it's already in good shape.

Pours a relatively clear orange-amber colour, capped with one finger of tight, foamy white head that wilts within a couple of minutes. A thin collar and patchy, filmy cap remain, with no lace deposition whatsoever; looks normal for a kettle sour. You do get a nice whiff of strawberry on the nose, as well as some tart, lemony notes and a restrained lactic funkiness. Suggestions of raspberry candy, tropical fruit and floral hops.

The flavour profile is approachable, with an even balance between sweet and sour. Tart and lemony right off the bat, with hints of raspberry quickly subsumed by sweeter flavours of ripe strawberry fruit. Hints of floral hops, wheat, tropical fruit and lactic sourness round out the tail end of the sip, preceding a moderately sour aftertaste with lingering strawberry and lemon. Light-medium in body, with assertive carbonation that remains prickly and crisp right down to the last couple of swigs. I tossed this back with no problem, but one per night is plenty.

Final Grade: 3.87, a B+. Strawberry Fields comes off as significantly less sour than their Berry Fields. On a basic level, that makes total sense, because strawberries are sweeter and less tart than raspberries. On the other hand, it also makes this much more of an 'introductory' sour: helpful for those interested in trying out fruited kettle sours for the first time, but aren't sure where to start. The upshot is that beer geeks seeking something puckeringly sour or intensely fruited may not be all that impressed with this. I liked this beer, but it's hardly a gamechanger.

473ml can served cold into a tulip. Part of the Henderson and Bench collab pack.

Appearance - A peach/strawberry colored beer with a couple fingers of white head that fizzle out in moments. Some haziness.

Smell - Light strawberry aromas, with some earthiness and a slightly tart aroma as well.

Taste - Fairly sour brew with some strawberries popping in. Strawberries taste pretty fresh and the tartness is strong at first but fades. Some wheat malt in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with average carbonation and soft finish. Does have a certain gassiness in the throat that makes this one a bit more of a sipper.

Overall - Solid enough and well brewed strawberry sour, but not quite enough top make this a standout from one of my less favorite styles. That said it's good for what it does and the strawberry is a bit too understated.
