Had it on tap at Mekelburg’s, Brooklyn, NY.
Pours a dark brown color that is nearly pitch black. A frothy and fluffy tan mocha head rises to the top shows decent retention.
Appealing aroma emits notes of chocolate, espresso, roasted barley and hazelnut.
The taste is well aligned with the aroma. The malt taste is nutty, chocolaty and roasty. What’s striking about this beer is the bold bitterness from its ample use of hops and the espresso bean finish. It imparts an ashy and tobacco like dryness.
Medium bodied with a gentle carbonation that softens even further. The ABV makes it accesible and easy to drink. Bitter and dry in the palate, however, further into the drink it develops a mild milky, creamy and chocolate sweetness that balances, is silky and smooth.
A wonderful, elegant and understatedly simple stout with a bold esspresso roast kick. An underrated gem!
