Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout
Cacao-nibs, vanilla, lactose, and a touch of coffee. Aged for more than a year in select rye whiskey barrels (which formerly held applejack) from NY Distilling Co. in Greenpoint. Decadent notes of boozy dark chocolate, spicy rye, creamy/oaky vanilla, dried apples, toasted figs and a relatively balanced dry/rich finish. Get your groove ON.

4 February 2020 - Beer #20
Price: $17.00 at the brewery
Appearance: 4 - pretty black, but I see some red at the corners. The head stuck around for a while. Nearly perfect.
Nose: 4 - no barrel, no coffee, no cacao, no vanilla. It's ALL stout, which ain't bad.
Taste: 4 - needs to warm up a bit. Some coffee bitterness, but gets sweeter on the back end. Still not much barrel or any of the other adjuncts. Just a solid tasting imperial stout.
Mouth: 4 - more effervescent than I expected, yet still syrupy. Might stick around until I brush in the morning. Well-crafted.
Overall: 4 - better than cromulent. A solid all-around stout. And the label art bears an uncanny resemblance to the scene at the State of the Union.
Cheers!

On tap at KCBC.
Pours a black color with hints of mahogany. A wispy head shows decent retention for the high ABV, yielding a thin ring of lace.
As expected, the aromas of rye hit the nose first, supported by notes of chocolate, cocoa powder, nutty malt, honey and caramel. There is a Kahlua like boozy aroma that also evokes cherries, raisins and currants.
The taste opens with sweet notes of chocolate complimented by cherries. All throughout, a rye whisky spice warms the palate and balances the sweetness. A light acidity from the black malts also provides balance. Complex and rich with additional notes of red grape, raisins and currants.
Full bodied, boozy and with a warm and dry finish. The alcohol spice provides a sting going down the throat.
Fantastic big flavored stout.

Decanted from a 16.9 oz (500 ml) bottle into a Tree House snifter; no production information.
A: Pours a cloudy, very dark brown to black color with a three finger, brown color, retention to a cap, and relatively limited lacing.
S: Aromas of Jameson's Irish Whiskey, molasses, maple syrup, caramel, milk and dark chocolate.
T: Sweet and rather boozy. Jameson's flavor up front. Flavors largely follow the nose, but fudge is much, much more evident with plum and dark berry notes accompanying it. Bitterness sufficient to offset excess bitterness.
M: Full bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: Delicious. A very impressive dessert style stout from KCBC. Wish I had purchased more than two bottles.
