Double Dry Hopped IPA // Zack's brew

Soft hazy straw-yellow in the glass, featuring a massive, mid-air-karate-style addition of Simcoe hops, with an assist from X14, a fruity new experimental hop grown exclusively in Long Island. Orange-lemon-papaya & up front, with a big hit of fresh pine close behind. Soft mouthfeel but dry on the finish, with a touch of classic PNW bitterness.

From our 2023 beer advent exchange.

A very quaffable brew, if it wasn’t for the higher ABV.

A- pours cloudy orange yellow with a huge fluffy white three finger head. Good lacing. 4.0

S - Citrusy orange but not excessive. Not a fruit bomb. Some minor resiny notes. 3.75

T - Very well balanced for an AP/IPA. Orange/citrus balanced with a herbal maltiness. 4.25

MF - medium/medium light body with an easy drinking dry finish. Smooth but with some hoppiness. 4.5

16oz can dated 10/8/21.

Pours cloudy yellow with an inch of white foam. Retention is decent with moderate lacing. Unripe peach with clementines and honeydew. Medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel. Juicy tropicals on the palate with minimal malt or bitterness. Peach, tangerine, and sugar-dusted grapefruit. Finishes juicy and tropical.

Look: Pours a drabby yellow / orange color with a two finger head of very coarse, rocky white foam. As the head subsides, intricate webs of lacing are left on the sides of the glass.

Aroma: Having this within a week of it being canned, the nose is tremendous, it hits you as soon as you open the can and before the beer is even poured out. Huge notes of sweet Italian torrone & cotton candy bubblegum. Blueberries and bananas. Gentle, dry pine sap. Savory tropical honeydew, cantaloupe and musky, overripe guava.

Taste: Tangy-musky and bitter-tropical upfront, with pleasant notes of dried peaches, fresh mango and mildly peppery, floral coriander. Some waxy, bitter tangerine and grapefruit skin like oiliness follows soon after. . . mid-palate the malt profile comes into play as sweeter biscuity, crackery flavors take hold without ever truly obscuring the bouquet of the initial flavors. It goes fruity towards the end, as flavors of peach cobbler, apricot jam and even blueberry pastries fade out into a backdrop of floral, bitter, waxy orange and clementine.

Feel: Mid-weight. Low Carb. Bittersweet/dry.

Overall: Exceptionally good. The beer's slight peppery/ashy/waxy bitter hop bite takes center stage throughout the tasting experience without outshining the other; slightly musky and sour fruity/tropical flavors; while still permitting the delicious, pastry like, bready malt bill to come in and provide some contrast and sweetness.
