Pours a yellow orange color. Although cloudy in the glass, there was some clarity coming out of the can. A large foam head quickly dissipates.
The nose is quite pungent, almost catty, with a strong bouquet of fruit and herbs. Aromas of the pineapple, lemon and peach adjuncts, as well as notes of melon and berries. Further into the drink, the nose becomes significantly leafy and herbal, with notes of grass, pine and spruce.
The taste aligns with the aroma in how it opens with the fruit adjuncts. Tangy flavors of pineapple juice, the bitterness of peach pit and a lemon zest that adds a slight tartness. The malt profile is crackery and neutral, as the hops and adjuncts run the show. There is a balance of juicy sweetness and developing bitterness. Herbal notes of grass, pine and spruce add an earthy spice, while the finish is dry and resiny.
Medium body that feels a bit thin for a DIPA. I feel like it could have used a stronger malt fullness to support the hops and fruit adjuncts. The carbonation is moderate and on par.
Fun to drink, however, the body and lack of malt balance slightly take the score down a notch compared to some other great KCBC brews.
