Pours jet-black-velvet in the glass with a cappuccino-tan head. Notes of semi-sweet cocoa, fresh coffee, light caramel, and black bread. Silky smooth mouthfeel and balanced finish. Like hugging a panda.

Somehow some of this beer found it's way over to Cambridge/UK (Bacchanalia at Mill Road) where I picked up a can. The lable design is either highly exuberant or downright kiddy depending on your mood. Hopefully the beer itself proves a bit of a steadier proposition.
L- Pours jet black with a 3-4mm dark tan head that dissipates within a minute.
S- It's quite pungent, a combo of very dark roast and hints of smoke.
T- Interesting, deep roast yet a dry aspect to it (hops), then brief coffee and deep roast+charring.
F- The quite bright hopping help balance the intense roast aspect. Mercifully what it is not is over-rich, or sweet for that matter.
O- I've no idea what the lable references but the beer is better than it led me to anticipate. It's not a thing of subtlety but would work well on cold winter evenings when your palate can crave impact.
After a ten minute interuption I return to the beer and I think it's better for having had the hard chill knocked off; it comes over as more rounded and... well more enjoyable. So that's my tip, don't serve it straight from the fridge.

Served from the can in a Lagunitas mason jar.
Pours a deep obsidian topped by a finger of dark dirty tan foam. The nose comprises roast, cocoa powder, light molasses, and a twinge of sweet coffee. The taste brings in more of the same, all of the relatively rough edges smooth down, allowing for the flavors to harmoniously coalesce on the tongue. The body is a straight medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fairly smooth feel. A rather nice bit o' porter, indeed.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high tan colored head that left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of chocolate, coffee and dark malts are present in the smell.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional hints of cola. The hops contribute a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I found this beer to be quite flavorful for a porter - it had the amount of flavors that you would normally expect from a stout - but was much easier to drink.
