Appearance: Arrives slightly hazy and amber colored; the head fades and leaves spots of lace
Smell: Butterscotch and red wine; grainy
Taste: Grain and butterscotch tones set the base, with some earthy bitterness developing; through the mid-palate the red wine and oak flavors add complexity and while there is some sweetness in the finish, the hops balance things out; some herbal tones linger in the aftertaste
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: I know this review sounds odd, particularly the butterscotch comment (and it is not a diacetyl problem) but this beer works; really enjoy how the flavors complement one another; certainly not a classic Saison profile but this may be the best example of the fruit tones of Pinot Noir influencing a beer that I have encountered
