We often get the question "Where does the name Cushwa come from?"

Well, the name Cushwa comes from the the Cushwa Basin located in Williamsport, MD. When the C&O Canal was built, canal boats would turn around at the basin. The C&O Canal Towpath is about 187 miles long and the Basin sits at about mile marker 100. It's not exactly halfway but it sounds like a good place to turn around.

Large space in a industrial park. Not easy to find, but I did make it. Server was pleasant but seemed a little distracted. Pours of drafts stop at 12 ounces the IPA I had was $6.00. Most visitors were eating pizza, so not sure if the pizza or the beer was the main attraction. A nice place but the beer was good but pricey.

Your typical warehouse style place-high ceilings, open and cavernous space. Long high top table by the brewery windows and then lower tables scattered throughout. "Patio" area in the parking lot directly in front. Everything I had was very good to excellent. IPA heavy menu wise. An oatmeal stout-excellent, helles lager-excellent, and one of the best kettle sour fruit beers I have had-a berry cobbler sort of thing. Service was great both times I was there. The local pizza place attached makes a great (plain) pie as well. I like to just taste the pizza at times don't need a lot of toppings. That's the positive now the (only) negative-the pricing and pours. Largest pour is 12 ounces. The lager was $4 ok I get that...then it slowly escalated on up to $7 or $8 for a 12 ounce pour. Not for me ain't gonna do it. I bought a 4 pack for $16 to go rather than drink draft there. Would a 16 ounce pour-if they had them-run $10? Something needs to give and I do not think it's me.....Definitely worth a stop. The 4 packs are all reasonable price wise. Great pizza too. Just look out for the sticker shock.
