Citraweizen’s recipe is based on our Hefeweizen, but we lightened up the color a bit and dry hopped it with a whole bunch of a hop called Citra. True to their name, Citra Hops give this beer a citrus aroma and flavor that pair perfectly with our wheat beer’s traditional banana character. Citraweizen is the ideal beer to help you beat this Illinois summer heat.

5-24-22 dated tall can.
Typical Hefe look, leaves a minor smattering of lace on the glass.
Lemony fresh sniff.
Tasty wheat beer with more lemon notes, soft bready malt and wheat accents. Smooth and easy drinking. Nice sessioner

Canned 6/3/21
Hazy pale yellow gold, a finger of foam that fades to a broken skim and spotty lace around the edges.
Aroma is wheaty with the usual banana esters, not getting much citrus.
Taste is wheaty, soft esters, a little tangy with some odd chlorine notes. Not getting any distinctive Citra character. Seems a little off. Medium bodied, some astringency present. Ample carbonation. Might try this on tap to see if there was an issue with this can, as their standard Hefeweizen is great.

The correct name probably is Citra-weizen. It has 795 ratings on Untappd since 2016 and a 5.2 ABV and 12 IBU.
All corrected, this is an interesting brew, but not one I will repeat... being a traditionalist. Hefes should have bananas, not citrus dominating. Riggs' beer Looks below average, particularly for the foam. Smells are interesting, different. But Tastes are too dissonant for me; I really want my banana. In the mouth, medium seems accurate; but not soft like the hefe of old.
This is my first from Riggs and they get my micro-review. They get pretty good Overall Hugs for being sensitive to sustainability issues and local sourcing (especially from their farm). But their story of two brothers starting as home brewers is a pretty common path to trod nowadays.

I tried this at Black Dog Smokehouse in Champaign, IL. It poured a cloudy yellow with white head that did not leave any lace. The scent had citrus flare. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with citrus presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a decent beer.
