American Solera

a salted cranberry lime lager, that i do not believe is actually retired, it just showed up in idaho a couple of weeks ago. in any event, its tasty and summery and drinkable, but not the kind of thing that made me fall in love with these guys when they first started out, and i miss all the wild beers and barrel aged stuff, these pint cans have been good, but not in the same league at all as their best stuff from the past. the cranberry is behind the lime to me, and has more of a generic tang than an obvious cranberry character in both nose and taste. the lime is piquant, almost making this drink like a berliner or other light lactic sour, zesty and natural, appealing for sure. the body is a little fuller for what it is though, and even with bright carbonation it seems a little less refined than it should be. a nice combination of fruit, this seems almost healthy in a rehydrating sports drink kind of way, but really doesnt have much of the lager yeast or anything coming through, and as such, is a little one dimensional, maybe less beery than i wanted it to be, but still refreshing and good. if these were cheap id be more into them, but its an expensive single of a somewhat lackluster beer, especially for american solera, good, but not in a hurry to revisit...
