Pours a clear, dark brown color. 1/2 inch head of an off-tan color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of roasted malt, sweet malt, hint of alcohol, slight yeast, and hops. Fits the style of an American Porter. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of roasted malt, sweet malt, hint of alcohol, slight yeast, slight coffee, and hops. Overall, good appearance, average aroma and feel, but good blend.

Its not every day that I venture into the cask realm, but this beer, on the day in question, was such a foray.
A mixture of Burton yeast, roast and back room closet.
Roast, mild sweetness, wood, dank basement, smoke, earthy yeast notes. This beer could really use some carbonation for my tastes, would help with the mouthfeel. Could be sessionable if it had bubbles.

a porter of stunning quality, i mean, straight up one of the best i have ever encountered, and most certainly my favorite magnolia beer to date. i hope their stuff keeps coming around. this is epic, flawless almost. shiny black pint looks gorgeous, fluffy tan head rising above the lip of the glass, foamy and rigid, soapy looking, sexy, sleek. smells like specialty black malts with very little bitterness, a little english type yeast, maybe more english than american overall despite the listing here, and very mild bittering hops. dark chocolate and tree bark and something else earthy, sarsaparilla or something, really fantastic, and its all there in the flavor too. thin in body but smooth, drinkable until the end of time. i love the malt profile. its not bogged down by a big caramely middle, and its not aggressively bitter. the yeast gives it a wintery warming quality, and its palate coating but also dry, at an alcohol level i could pound on for hours. i love everything about this beer, and think its a unique and special example of the style. i swear it has reduced my enjoyment of all other porters moving forward, it really has no equal as a basic porter. id love to sit in on brew day and figure out what makes it so distinct. world class, no doubt.

This is a review of Magnolia’s Cole Porter porter brewed with Candy Cap mushrooms, on cask. Whew!
Pretty awesome combination.
Pours a coffee-cola color, minus foam. There’s an enormous soy sauce aroma on this—a soy sauce bomb? I get a mouthful of soy sauce and sautéed mushrooms as I sip, in conjunction with a muted bitterness. It’s a little off-kilter and needs some time to mellow out and work together but it has potential.
