On tap at Magnolia on 7/11/09.
A - Cloudy, earthy brown body with half a finger of creamy beige head that settled into a patchy film, leaving nice lacing overall.
S - Spicy nose with a predominantly clove character and only a hint of ripe banana peel. Nose is heavy on the clove, making it difficult to draw out any other aromas. There are also some mild earthy, herbal hop notes present.
T - Again, clove spiciness dominates the flavor. Not a whole lot of sweetness coming through, a la banana or bubblegum, unfortunately. Some toasted grains appear in the backend and remain through to the finish. A bit unbalanced overall.
M - Medium body with a slightly syrupy texture and moderate carbonation. Finishes with subtle bitterness on the palate.
D - Could use a bit more sweetness to balance the heavy clove presence of this dunkel. This is a middle-of-the-road brew overall.
