An imperial esb?? Lol. Okay. I'm waiting for the day when someone makes some imperial water. "I'd like a double H20 please."
This beer is nice and hearty in an almost mellow kind of way. Carries a lot of body, but doesn't push it too much so. I mean I'd really consider this a strong ale, but no big deal. Nice beer.

had a glass this last weekend, it was on the board at 9% ABV. with no description -- i guess i would call it a Double Biiter (?)
pours a nice dark red copper, very clear, decent carbonation -- you can see through it, but it is rich and red. small white foam on the surface and it leaves some suds on the glass as you drink it down. the smell is excellent and malty, with a decent hop presence -- if memory serves it was around 60 IBUs. i really appreciated the amped up bitterness in this beer -- after becoming an "ipa drinker" -- i sort of gave up on the plain old, Bitters and ESBs...
for 9% alcohol this is a smooth, easy drinker. really an excellent beer. Magnolia is hands down the Best Brew Pub in SF -- the Proving Ground IPA and their Stout(s) are consistently great... and they come up with stuff like this Double Bitter all the time...
recommended.

Brewed with Maris Otter, Pride of Brant Hill pours a deep amber and smells of bready malt and mild spicy hops. Tastes light and refreshing, with a medium body and carbonation. Some mild juicy fruit flavors in the beginning. Middle is nutty and bready, almost like the crust of a nice wheat bread. Hops are assertive and spicy without overpowering the delicious malt flavors. Finishes dry. The whole beer comes together as a synthesis of hearty flavors that is imminently drinkable and exceptionally unique. I've never tasted Maris Otter in a commercial beer before, and this came across as an exceptional beer. How often do you taste a beer that is balanced and drinkable, while being completely unique and innovative? Not often.
