A new take on an Alchemist favorite: Sterk Wit. We held back a portion of our spring release, added a touch of Brettanomyces and bottle conditioned it all summer.

A- 750ml pours into becher with a clear on pour one and then a cloudy on pour two golden body. The beer foams up rapidly to several inches high with infinite head retention. Massive piles of lacing.

S- Tart and funky witbier. Musty barnyard funk and cherry pie brett. Oranges and coriander are big with whole grain bread, mild lactic tartness, lemon, pale grapes and herbal peppery hints.

T- Becomes rather tart and the oranges really pop off here. The brett is still prominent but the balance of the beer shines here. Coriander herbal spiciness, oranges, tangerine, lemon tartness, sour pale grapes, lactic acid, cherry pie, musty vinous notes and a whole grain bread. Peppercorn notes.

MF- Silky smooth and foamy with a touch of creaminess. Very very high carbonation and a spicy herbal bitter ending. Rather tart.

Need to add more Brett to Witbier apparently. Was a bit confused about Witbier in a 750ml but ended up really enjoying this.

750 mL bottle, dated 4/4/19

A: Pours a golden yellow color with a massive fluffy head that sticks around for a good while

S: Some of the Brett and barnyard notes up front along with some spiciness, fruit, and light wheat

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with some rustic barnyard notes, moderate Brett influence, spiciness, and some citrus fruitiness and peel. Finishes with lingering spice and fruity notes

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Quite effervescent, which makes it feel a little lighter than it is

O: A very good “double” wit with plenty of Brett influence. Nicely drinkable. Would be worth comparing side-by-side with the canned un-Bretted version (from memory, this is quite different thanks to the Brett influence)

750 ml. bottle.
Bottled April 4, 2019.
Released December 2, 2019.
Moderate pour yielded a five inch white head! I let it sit for a few minutes and gently poured again, this time there is a two inch white head over a bright, light golden body with very sticky lacing (all the way to the bottom of the first pour!) Nose of slight funk, orange peel, and a bit of spice. Taste mirrors nose fairly well with orange peel, a bit of citrusy spice, and slight Brettanomyces funk finishing nice and crisp. Wonderful mouth-filling feel and overall, find it, buy it, drink it! Cheers to John K. for today's surprise!
