Brewer's Notes: "A roasted coffee and chocolate forward dark farmhouse ale that used rye chocolate malts. The addition of Madagascar vanilla beans smooths out this ale with a sweet, creamy finish."
Poured from crowler. Fill date of 7/9/2018.
Dark brown colored body, with garnet highlights when presented to light. Small light tan head stays around but eventually disappears to a very thin ring. No lacing.
Aroma is an amalgam of dark malts (smoke towards char, chocolate, molasses and leather). A little whiff of citrus hops. Slight funk from the yeast. Burned brown sugar sweetness.
Taste seems smoother than the smell. The dark malts yield flavors of brown sugar/molasses, chocolate, and slight smoke. Hints of vanilla and dark fruit (prunes). The yeast provides a little funk, but it waits until the end. A touch of orange citrus hops. Not bitter, but has a slight tangy attribute.
Thin to medium mouth feel. Lower carbonation.
Wonderfully expressive in aroma and flavor for a farmhouse ale. Best to savor to allow opening of different aromas and flavors. Could have a thicker mouth feel, but it does not detract much. Final impression is that of a flat cola, that is made up of natural ingredients and not dominated by sugar.

On tap. Poured out an opaque, dark brown color with a small, light brown head of foam. It smelled of yeastiness, roasted malt and toasted caramel. Sweet caramel, roasted malt and spicy bite.

Pours a very dark brown colour. Smells like honeyed biscuits, roasted malts, brown sugar, notes of tiramsu, and black strap molasses. Tastes like espresso, heavy roasted grains throughout, bitter finish, and relatively medium-bodied.

This beer pours pitch black, and is a thick pouring beer. The nose is very rich with chocolate notes, and a bit malty also. The head was 3 finger when poured, but did dissipate to a bit of froth on the top of the beer. The taste is interesting. It starts out with a bit of funk. Then you get some chocolate. Then it moves to a bit of a boozy flavor. The beer does feel watery, which is a bit of a let down based on everything else. Overall it is an amazing beer.
