500 ml bottle split with my brother at the brewery.

TLDR: Why are they serving a beer that smells and tastes like canned peas???!

The appearance was very light, not at all like a doppelbock. I get that barrel aging will make a beer's color lighter, but this was pretty much straw yellow.

Aroma is straight-up canned peas. Maybe a hint of applesauce.

Flavor is canned peas with applesauce - think baby food. Weird? Yes. In a good way? No, not at all. There is absolutely zero doppelbock character. Zero brett funkiness. There is some sweetness that may or may not be from the mead barrels. Who cares. This is nasty.

About the only positive thing I can say about this beer is that I never would have guessed it's anywhere near 11.4% abv. It's not boozy at all.

Overall, this was terrible. And no, we didn't come close to finishing it. Gross.

OK. We are dealing with an experiment in a traditional style in an even more traditional tradition.
You get my point.
Mutual Weirdness is an out-of-the-box beer. (But, I'm not sure it is thinking out-of-the-box in a disciplined way. It may be way-out-of-the-box... but I won't go into that discussion here.) For the obligatory review....

Mutual Weirdness certainly Looks different than anything other than a blonde doppel... and probably looks different than most of them as I see no clarity. As for Smells, the funk is too different, as doppels are about eating figs. As I drink Mutual and feel the alcohol, I start to think weird thoughts... like, maybe this isn't so weird and how important it is to learn from experiments and stretch the consciousness of consumers. So, Taste wins a few extra points; but I'm wondering.... where are my figs? As this sits in my mouth, I recognize that no figs are forthcoming and I'm disappointed.

But I give these guys Big OA Hugs for a really cool-looking taproom and a general attention to detail in the description of their ales. I am not a fan of Brett, but at least these guys didn't make me pay too much for it. I'll try a saison of theirs.

Thanks to Jeff for this one. 750ml corked and capped bottle into Night Shift stemware. Shared with schen9303.

Nose is beeswax, vinegar, sweet cream and cane sugar. Weird for sure. Aromatic. Not bad but strange. Beer opens honey, lightly tart. Hints of vinegar, lemon and cane sugar. Zesty. Accented, tart finish. Some tart prune in the back. Body is medium with low carbonation. Slick on the palate and goes down accented, sparkling. Lingering, sticky aftertaste.

Definitely one of the most unique beers I've had... but not really my cup of tea.

750ml bottle. Capped and corked.
Clear, deep gold colored body. One finger of fizzy white head upon the initial pour. This head fizzes away to partial surface skim fed by bubbles, and a ring. Leaves behind some spots and strings of lacing.
Aroma of sweet Brett and oak barrel. Sweet bready malts.
Taste of funky Brett (which is dry). Other flavors of sweet bread, fig, oak, and barrel nuances of mead and honey.
Medium mouth feel. Very good carbonation.
First time for trying this combination of Brett funk and sweet bread and barrel. It hardly works but it is drinkable. This is called a beer/mead hybrid. The tennis shoe Brett funk is asked to work with the honey mead oak barrel. A true mash up.
