German Inspired IPA
Schmetterling is an imaginative endeavor to brew a contemporary tasting IPA using 100% German ingredients as well as adhering to Reinheitsgebot (German beer purity law), which only permits the use of water, barley, and hops. As a brewery that uses more than its fair share of "alternative" ingredients, we were eager for the challenge and pleased with the outcome. Built with Weyermann Pilsner and specialty malts, fermented with German Ale yeast, and hopped at 5 lbs per barrel with new age German hops (Hallertau Blanc, Mandarina Bavaria, and Huell Melon), this beer glows pale yellow and expresses unique flavors and aromas not found anywhere else within our portfolio. We sense notes of wildflower nectar, melon rind, banana runts, pear, fresh cut grass, with gentle citrus, dandelion and Riesling notes, swept away by a firm and quenching bitterness.
