I'm drinking Black Flag's salute to Anchor Steam in a wheat beer glass bearing the inscription: "Beer Built This Body" (thanks, Marilynn). The tall glass helps amplify the beer's deep amber hue, similar to an O'fest beer. I smell fresh, clean toasted malt, also similar to a marzen. I taste a light (4.9%), lager-smooth, malt-driven easy drinker, tweaked with an unexpected hit of fruit. Ale-like. It's a distinctive combination that brought back memories of the original. Way to go, Black Flag! This is best California Common I've tasted since Sapporo dumped Anchor last summer.
