On-draught @ the brewpub in Summer 2016. 0.3L for 45000 VND. Vietnamese-brewed helles lager.
APPEARANCE: The murky unfiltered pale copper body immediately outs this as an atraditional helles lager, but the frothy 6cm white cap is nice, and sticks around for a good 9 minutes.
AROMA: German yeast is evident by the clean attenuation. Munich malt aromatics dominate. Floral hop character is appropriately subdued, but I don't find any grassy character consistent with Noble Hops.
Aromatic intensity is average, suggesting a clean drinking simple lager with a refreshing taste.
TASTE: Hm. It's even more simple and shallow than the aroma suggested, and there's some metallic bleed. Munich Helles malts provide the bulk of the flavour, with a bit of floral hop character in there for shits n gigs.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, refreshing, overcarbonated, light-bodied.
OVERALL: A run of the mill Vietnamese attempt at a helles lager. Costs far more than many superior bottled expressions of the style would in Germany. Drinkable, but why bother?
