A quality malt flavor that you wish was in every brown ale.

Picked up a four pack of tall boys at Silver Harbor Brewing Co here in Michigan microbrew country. Popping the top I get a waft of some caramel, vanilla, some black licorice and roasted malt. Pours to a deep brown with a tan head. On the taste is a very smooth and silky yet biting flat chocolate and pronounced vanilla with just the right amount of bitterness to balance the sweetness. Good carbonation and sparkiness. A very nice finish relatively clean and non clingy. A very nice sipper.

Dark brown in color with a fingernail of brown on top. Heavy, soapy lacing is present. I smell caramel. I taste chestnuts. The mouth is creamy and smooth.

I found this to be as good as half the desserts I eat. (So you know, dessert is my favorite part of the meal and am more discriminating about it than I am about beer.)
In other words, Kumbaya is interesting; but I do not give it high praise. It Looks OK (some foam and an average brown.) It gets the most points for Smells that are reminiscent of marshmallows by the fire (and some equally sweet malt.) But the vanilla forces Tastes to the brink of the cliff of credibility. In my mouth, this sweet brew cloys and nearly falls over the cliff; but the bubbles keep my palate wobbly at the edge. The concept of the beer is cool, but I never finished it... so I guess this one is OK to share.
OA: I went on Silver Harbor's website and their range of beer seems to cross all across all three traditions; but they certainly seem to interpret mostly the British styles. But actually, their food menu seems more interesting. Maybe I should go there to eat next time I'm in the area.

Taste: toasted semi sweet malt, almost a vanilla bean note. Same for the nose.
Dark Brown, mostly clear, with a creamy head and nice lattice to lace. Medium body. The smokey complex finish would pair well with many dishes.
