Can from Market of Choice.

A dark brown with a thin brown head that falls off rapidly leaving no lacing, this looks solid. The nose is mildly smoky, mildly roasty, lightly briny and with a grainy tartness present. Mild grain, roast, cocoa and coffee are present as well. Muddled. Thin, drying, roasty, smoky finish. Decent.

Very dark brown with plenty of foam in the snifter. Thoroughly dark roasted flavors. This has the pleasing watery body somehow as the usual much lower-ABV Stouts. Tangy and not too sweet but malt flavored with a dose of something briney. Not overly flavored but a robust dark brew just the same. Less of the burnt flavor as drier Stouts. It doesn't actually taste smoky, however, and I suspect the oysters were only threatened with being made into beer. From the 4-pack of 16 oz cans canned on 03/03/23. Thanks to Clayton for bringing them back from Yachats.

16-ounce can purchased at the Cedar Mill Market of Choice. Date stamp reads "PEARLS BEFORE BRINE 01/13/21". (Clever!) Poured into a nonic half-pint.

Look:
Yachats Smoked Oyster Stout pours a clear, dark chestnut brown with red-amber highlights. The ivory white head is creamy, but quickly dissipates to a sturdy ring of foam. Doesn't leave much lacing.

Smell:
Dark, roasty malt laced with tangy smoke. Notes of brown bread, chocolate, earth, a little caramel, and a hint of brine.

Taste:
Closely follows the nose, leading off with roasty, bready malts. Tangy smoke is nicely integrated. The smoke tapers off in the middle, which is earthy with some delicious caramel and fruity dark chocolate. The earthiness carries through to the dry and roasty finish. A hint of savory brine makes a terrific cameo in the aftertaste.

Feel:
Body is on the light side of medium, with a smooth texture underneath rather prickly carbonation which slightly dings the drinkability.

Overall:
Yachats Smoked Oyster Stout is a tasty beer with moderate smokiness and a delicate briny character in the finish. I think I'd enjoy it more with a little less carbonation and a little more brine. Someday I'd like to try this one on tap. Especially if I can work a plate of oysters into the mix.
