really intelligent beer here, one of my favorites from our time here, just really smart, and even if the execution overall is a half step from perfection, the beer overall really hits for me. crazy that is is gluten reduced, my guess is thats from a high proportion of rice in it and maybe a little of the enzyme, but its real light and clean, doesnt feel cheap or like any soul has been sacrificed to the gluten gods, and the whole thing is neat and tidy, but what i like the most is the use of sorachi ace hops in here, which had an all too brief moment in the sun years ago before dying back into seeming oblivion, so when i smelled and tasted this for the first time it hit me hard, first sorachi beer ive had in some time, man i love this hop! its so recognizable in this, even as non hoppy beer, and it really stands out in this light and minimal rice lager. dill, lemon curd, white coconut flesh, lemongrass, and white tea, so awesome, and even a little of that makes this distinct to me in nose and taste. i like the dryness here, the slightly starchy rice and florals it brings, and i like the lager yeast having some flavor, this isnt quite as neutral as a lot of them are, some european character to this year, it adds something nice. this ends up being complex while staying super drinkable and approachable, and i think they really have something here. id love to see this hop make a comeback, but more than anything i am thankful these guys made this, what a fun pint! my wife loved it too!
