On tap at Pizza Luce in St. Paul, MN. 10 oz. pour in a chalice.

Appearance: Color is a dark blackish brown. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid one finger of tan head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A very roasty dark malt forward aroma with good hints of chocolate and smoke. Dark roasted barley malt with big hints of dark chocolate, coffee, burnt toast, biscuit, and smoke along with some nuts, toffee, caramel, and yeast. Nice hints of leather and tobacco along with some light hints of pepper spicing. Also some light dark fruit hints. A very solid robust aroma.

Taste: Like the nose hints at, a very roasty dark malt driven taste with big notes of chocolate and smoke. Upfront dark roasted barley malt with notes of bitter dark chocolate, coffee, cream, biscuit, toast, smoke, nuts, and yeast. Sweet notes of caramel and toffee. Some spicy notes of pepper come through along with notes of tobacco and leather. Light undertones of dark fruit and earthy hops. A pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, chewy, and pretty drying on the finish. Alcohol is hidden well.

Overall: A very good take on a Baltic Porter. Nice big roasty dark malt flavors with a nice subtle note of spice.
