Serving glass: Poured from tap into small "Beer-on-a-stick" plastic cup, and later into a larger plastic cup, as I wanted more.
Appearance: Looks jet black, but light and angled viewing shows it is a dark brown. Good sized (especially for a lager) tan head, with some lacing.
Smell: Strong roasted aroma, with coffee, chocolate, smoke and char.
Taste: Coffee is dominant, but also notes of dark chocolate (the 85% stuff), caramel, smoke and indescribable dark fruit. Finish is sharp and bitter, both from the roasted notes and European-style spicy and earthy hops.
Feel: Moderate carbonation, medium body. Finish is crisp and dry. Very smooth and drinkable.
Overall: Very good example of a Schwarzbier, with a sharper finish than many. This is cuurently a State Fair only beer, but I hope to somehow have this again.

20 oz. glass on tap at the Minnesota State Fair.
Appearance: Color is jet black. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid finger of off white head with decent retention.
Smell: A roasty and smokey dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Dark roasted barley malt with hints of bitter dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, toast, biscuit, and yeast. Subtle hints of earthy hops and dark fruit. A pretty nice smokey aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a roasty and smokey dark malt forward taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Dark roasted barley malt with upfront notes of bitter dark chocolate, smoke, and coffee. Also some notes of biscuit, toast, grains, and yeast. Background presence of earthy hops. Subtle notes of dark fruit. A pretty solid taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very creamy, silky, and smooth.
Overall: A pretty good take on a Schwarzbier. Roasty and smokey with a lighter body. Pretty good dark session option.
