With big aromas of stone fruit and toffee, plus a slap shot of spicy hop flavor and assertive bitterness, Summit High Sticke Alt returns from an all-star season in 2017 to run the rink again this year. Cross-checking, throwing elbows, talking trash — the beer just does what needs to be done. Deep copper in color, traces of toast, caramel, and biscuit come from a complex blend of German malts, while a huge hop load and a long period of cold conditioning result in crisp, refreshing drinkability.

12oz can. Stamped dating on can bottom is 'EB 07/04/21'.
Clear, deep amber colored body. Persistent off white head. Leaves behind rings and partial sheets of lacing.
Aroma is faint, but expresses toffee and dates.
Taste is is toasted malts at first and then goes to a piney hops flavor and bitter ending. With a couple of sips the toffee and dates/prunes/apricot come out. Has a rather dry ending.
Fuller mouth feel, with mouth coating. Very good carbonation.
Quite refreshing with its dry finish, but still provides a good bunch of flavors throughout the taste profile - toffee, dark fruit, and bitter pine.

From a 12oz can:
Appearance: Clear amber, good head.
Smell: Toffee aroma.
Taste: Toffee to start, bit of dark fruit, mild tea bitterness, nice balanced flavor. Slight citrus in the finish.
Overall: Very pleasantly surprised by this beer! I haven't had too many altbiers so went in open-minded. Nice balanced beer, kind of a brown ale/english pale/hoppy mix of a beer. Nice to have something different (non-IPA) in the mix.

Can I say I'm surprised? In no way did I expect these flavors to come out of a Beer by Summit Brewing. Nothing against the brewery in general but generally they are lower quality craft beers that tend to be mass-produced. But this one is delicious. A really balanced flavor profile with caramel biscuit and hoppy goodness. Has the aftertaste of an IPA but not so Piney or bitter. I would drink this beer all day long.

A pretty, dark amber pour with a tight head, good retention. Undistiguished aroma. Taste gives up malts and a touch of molasses. Very dry, long lingering finish. A rarely brewed beer, but well done compared to other Altbier we have tasted. The ABV is well hidden. Summit has distinguished itself on this one.

Never was a huge fan of the style but this was surprisingly excellent. Most impressive was the extremely complex flavor profile. Very bitter, with notes of nuts, dark bread, and caramel.
