Annually in late August or early September, we source local fresh hops, and within hours of their reaping, we use them to brew Ten Bends' Harvest Ale. We began this tradition in 2014 with hops grown in our own backyards. Today we partner with Vermont's @champlain.valley.hops the largest hop farm in New England. Each year we create a unique ale highlighting the freshly harvested hop variety's characteristics and growth region's terroir as the dominant flavor characteristics. There is truly nothing like a beer made with newly harvested Vermont hops.

Foggy pale amber to dark orange with an off-white head.

Peanutty and also a little vegetal, it's almost like Thai food without the spice, unfortunately reinforcing my reservations about harvest ales. Both of those attributes are right in line with the majority of my fresh hop ale experiences, including the ones I've tried right smack in the middle of Yakima valley.

The medium-light body has a soft crispness and finishes semi-dry.

I'm just not a big fan of truly fresh-hopped or wet-hopped ales.

Canned on the 271st day of 2022.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a nearly one and a half inch off white head over a hazy murky golden body with some lacing. Head recedes rather quickly to a thick ring.

Nose of pine and citrus with a bit of floral notes as well.

Taste is a bit sweeter than expected, but still quite nice, with citrus flavors of mostly orange and finishing with bitterness from citrus pith and a bit of pine.

Feel is good with a medium fullness.

Overall, a nice, easy drinking fresh hop ale worth seeking out!
Cheers!!

16 oz can.

Pours a hazy deep amber color with a large, sudsy off-white head. The head has average retention. Leaves some splotchy lacing.

The aroma is earthy, like the wet grass during a rainy November evening. There's some faint nuttiness, with a sweet malt backbone. Light pine and citrus.

The flavor is just so nicely balanced. The sweet, doughy malt and caramel notes are pronounced, but the bitter piney fresh hop notes linger from beginning to end.

The body is medium with moderate carbonation. Perhaps on the higher end of moderate. There's a subtle crispness that works well with the earthy hop flavors, yet it's soft enough to let the malt shine through.

Overall, I really enjoyed this beer. It's exactly what I love about "fresh hop" beers without even really being an IPA.
