Very dark brown, near black, with dark beige foam in the Duvel nonic. Plain and beery aroma with a winey hint. Just a slight sweetness, lots of roasty flavors. Dark grainy taste with a hint of burnt sugar. This is slightly more flavorful than the usual dry and plain Schwarzbiers. Overall it's not a bad dark beer and makes for a refreshing and different quaff. From the 16 oz can purchased at O'Shea Brewing in southern calif. Not dated but the whole brewer's recipe is on the label.

 

 

 

 

Verging on black ipa territory with the storng piney hops but the roasted malt balances just enough. The resulting mouthfeel is dry and bitter, lighter for a schwarz, but plenty of textures of roast and hops. Smell gets more of the other tones expected: earth, subtle dark nuttiness, and smoke. Pours brownish black opaque with a very large light brown head with waves of lacing left behind. A new world approach the whole way

Easily one of the best beers we’ve had on our beer journey. Excellent from the initial pour, color and head was only topped by its incredible flavor. Very unique in its live cultures. MUST TRY!

 

 

 

 

 

 

This pours cola black with cocoa tinged foam. Roast dominates, with coffee and chocolate undertones. Reminds me of a Death & Taxes. I enjoyed this one.
