Having this on-tap at the brewery. Served in a tulip glass, this beer draws a clear, medium golden color. Not much head when it was drawn and served to me, but has thick white ring lining the inside of the glass. Not much lacing here either unfortunately. Aromas of some bready, just slightly toasted malts along with a bit of grassiness, rye and wheat, and some earthy, citrusy hop notes. The taste is pretty much exactly the same, with some slightly toasted, bready malts that give way to some rye and wheat with just the slightest hint of musty, barnyard funk. No discernible peppercorn my palate could pick up, much to my dismay. Rounds out with a nice dose of earthy and somewhat citrusy hop bitterness. Not a bad flavor profile at all, quite enjoyable actually, but too off traditionally for this style for my taste. This drinks like a nice IPA, not a saison. Has a fairly crisp, slightly prickly, yet also smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate to heavy carbonation. An enjoyable beer, just not what I want or expect from a saison.
