Mistress is special. This steamy European Lady is spicy, fruity and dry only after you’re finished. BC and German grown malts are fermented with a unique blend of yeasts; The Mistress is then late hopped with New Zealand Motueka to ensure She is never bitter and never upset. The stone fruit and citrus of the hops weave together with her bubbly carbonation to bring out her sultry natural energy.

355ml bottle, part of their current mixed 12-pack. The label amusingly describes the old-timey, precursor to modern 'sexting'.

This beer pours a clear, medium golden yellow colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, finely foamy, and chunky bone-white head, which leaves some decent spectral and sudsy lace around the glass as it eventually fades away.

It smells of bready and grainy cereal malt, some musty yeastiness, a hint of generic citrus, subtle black pepper notes, and some earthy, weedy, and spicy floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, some orange and lemon fleshiness, rainbow peppercorn and coriander spice, more old-school yeasty essences, and a further earthy, musty, and floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is active in its palate-pinging frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and sort of smooth, as the estery yeast takes things down a peg or so here. It finishes trending dry, the malt bottoming out, and the yeasty and citrusy characters predominating.

Overall - well, my soul remains untouched by this offering, but I can say that it is indeed well-rendered, with all the hallmarks of the style duly hit upon. Definitely one of the better beers made by this particular Island brewing concern.
